My student Katelyn has an app on her iPhone that takes panoramic photos.  Such a strange but awesome pic!  And yes, that's me with the crazy face!  Hahahaha.

Welcome back to the 2012-2013 school year.....we have successfully completed a month of school here in Smithfield!  Yipee!  Stay tuned for new posts coming soon highlighting student artwork created by my amazing art students.  Happy Fall!

Her Morning Elegance

We are just starting a new project involving story telling.  We have been studying book illustrations, comic books, flip books, and stop-motion animation.  This is an amazing stop motion video titled Her Morning Elegance....you will love it!!!

The view from my classroom window.  Lovely.

This is a great blog by an art teacher in an all boys school who places great emphasis on sketchbooking.  I wish I could visit his art room.  It sounds so inspiring!

The Smithfield Coffee Company

I was lucky to spend the afternoon with a gentleman opening a new coffee shop in Smithfield.  He is planning to display 6 pieces of student artwork in his new shop!  He is opening the shop in early March and I can't wait.  Stay tuned for pictures of the artwork.    P.S.  I am also super excited for a funky coffee shop in walking distance from work!  Wahooo!

Drawing

"The reason why most people draw badly is because they draw symbols instead of what they see.  A nose is sort of triangle.  An eye is a circle with another one inside it.  An ear is a circle with a squiggle.  The brain has an inventory of shorthand symbols for stuff, and that's what we draw."    -Danny Gregory

Try drawing without looking at your paper.  Look only at the object you are drawing and move as slow as possible.  Your eye and your pen should be moving at the exact same speed.  Your drawing may look a little weird, but I guarantee there will at least one area that resembles the object with accuracy.

It is officially December.  My home is decorated for the holidays, I am preparing to send out our Christmas  cards......including my best pup Maggie, and I am excited to begin the new year.   What are your holiday plans and traditions?

Holiday Journals

I love the idea of holiday journals.  It seems like it could get a bit overwhelming....so maybe just a few holiday pages in my sketchbook.

It may be fun to use holiday cards that folks send you....I never know what to do with holiday cards after the season has past.

This page is from Dawn DeVries Sokol.  She makes awesome pages!
